Private Fostering Compliance Policy

Private fostering is when a child under the age of 16 (or 18 if they’re disabled) is being looked after for 28 days or longer by someone who is not a close relative. International students on day school placements also fall under this law.

WHG must notify local child services six week in advance of arrival of any students that fall under a private fostering arrangement using the agreed method by each Local Private Fostering Team.

That way we can make sure all the legal requirements are met and offer useful help and support to everyone involved, including visits from social workers every 4-6 weeks while students are in their host family.

This law is not there to be inconvenient, it is there for the welfare of the child and to make sure the host family is offering the best possible experience to their student.
