About the Area
Preston has a great shopping area, museums and parks. It has great road and train links to major cities, Manchester and Liverpool. Manchester and Liverpool are 30-40 minutes by car and train.
The historic city of Chester is 40 minutes away from Preston and is the only city in the UK which has a complete city wall built in the Roman age when the city was occupied by the Romans. There is also architecture dating back to the Elizabethan ages.
The Lake District National Park is around an hour away, which was home to Beatrix Potter, an author who wrote and annotated children’s books.
The coast is nearby, Blackpool which has 3 piers, the Pleasure Beach with the highest roller coast in Europe, the Sand Castle (an indoor water park), the tower and lots of other attractions. There are quieter locations on the coast such as Lytham St Annes and Southport, both of which have golf clubs which have hosted the Open Tournament. Lancaster is the county town and is located the north of the county and boasts a castle which is infamous for holding the trials of Pendle Witches. London & Edinburgh, Glasgow are accessible by train on the West Coast Main Line and the journey takes around 2 hours.
Preston is twinned with Almelo in Netherlands, Kalisz in Poland, Nimes in France and Recklinghausen in Germany.
