Cannock

My name is Ruth Perrins and I have been a Local Guardian for White House Guardianships since 2008.

One of my favourite hobbies when I was young was writing to pen-friends from all around the world and I've always enjoyed travelling. I think it's very interesting to meet new people and experience different cultures as it's something you can learn a lot from doing and it's something you'll always remember.

I live in my hometown Stafford and although I have no children myself I come from quite a large family and my sister and cousins have children. I have lived in other places but I like living here close to my old friends and family.

When I have free time I like to go walking as there are some beautiful areas near to where I live. When I left school I studied Hotel Management then I worked in hotels for about 10 years.

About the Area

Stafford is in the Midlands and only around an hour’s journey away by road from many of the major cities and tourist destinations in the UK such as Manchester, Birmingham, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Chester and Liverpool. London is only an hour and a half away by train.

Alton Towers is near to Stafford and is Britain’s most famous theme park with a selection of rides set in beautiful gardens of a house with a very interesting history. Trentham Gardens won the Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Gold Award in 2013 and features a mile long lake designed by Capability Brown. Ironbridge Gorge is a remarkable and beautiful place to visit with Blists Hill which is a recreated Victorian Town and several other museums in the area making it a World Heritage Site ranking alongside the Pyramids and Taj Mahal in its importance in world history.

Every summer a Shakespeare Festival is held at the castle presenting one of his world famous plays and has fast become one of Europe’s largest open air Shakespeare Productions. The town is surrounded by beautiful countryside and villages.

Stafford is twinned with Belfort in France, Dreieich in Germany, La Roe in France, Stafford County in Virginia USA and Tarragona in Spain.
